I’m a dynamic editor with 12+ years of experience in SaaS technology. I am a Certified Copy Editor, have received extensive training in SEO, and have had the pleasure of leading teams of writers and editors.

I’ve been recognized for my ability to anticipate cross-functional needs, create comprehensive style guides and documentation, and collaborate with leadership. My refined interpersonal and problem-solving skills allow me to deliver exceptional content that is “Taylored” to perfection.

Leadership style

I’ve spent my career working with ambitious marketing teams. I’ve also worked with cross-functional teams of all kinds, but I have most enjoyed working with and learning from product management and engineering teams. I also have experience working closely with CEOs and other C-suite members.

It’s never the intention to have your users rely on support documentation. Product copy and marketing content should provide all the guidance users need to complete their tasks as desired. I strive to help users solve their problems with clear, concise, and correct copy.

Should those users need additional support, I have ample experience developing knowledge base content as well. I’ll help them find their way.

Fostering inclusivity

The editor aims to achieve an equilibrium between business needs and user advocacy. An editor knows the brand voice and company goals inside and out and customizes content to meet those needs. An editor is also in tune with the industry and customers, elevating copy to meet users on their level.

Know yourself and know your team. This includes direct reports as well as peers and leadership. A primary component of leadership style begins your first week and is often overlooked. Leadership style takes ample ramp-up time at the start and it’s vital to building a strong team.

I will set the tone and expectations for my team early on. I will ensure that my reports know they can rely on me each day — to provide them with the support and resources they need to do great work and grow their careers. I will ensure my team knows when to ask me for help and when to problem-solve on their own. I will strive to get to know how each person works best and what type of motivation they need to do their best work.

Camaraderie is essential to me. I want my teammates to enjoy coming into work each day and I want to feel the same. Have a new recipe, hobby, or kid/pet story? I want to hear about it! Experiencing challenges at home? Life outside the office is hard work — let me see what support we can provide for you.

We shine the brightest when skills meet passion. I love sharing my knowledge with teammates. I have led team- and company-wide workshops on topics such as self-editing, the art and science of SEO, and technical editing. But my favorite presentation I have ever given was called “Challenging and avoiding oppressive language.”

Oppressive language is any word or phrase that exploits or belittles the identity or experiences of a certain group, such as those based on race, gender, or sexual orientation. By challenging this normalized language, we can actively work against behaviors and ideologies that are racist, sexist, anti-LGBTQIA, ableist, elitist, or otherwise harmful.

The primary goal of this presentation was to improve my team’s business writing — but also to improve the way we think and speak to our fellow human beings.
